This is Jalan Cintra. A street that's famous amongst local gourmands of Snakehead fish .
The fish is reknowned amongst the Cantonese clan for its ability to accelerate healing from within, but scares the shit out of a whole lot of American people, for its ability to 'walk' on land.
Follow the road to the end and you come to Jalan Chulia, a famous backpackers area.
At night, there are two coffeeshops that people patronise.
The other, lies diagonally across the street but has no name.
Just look out for a man cooking noodles at the entrance.
We prefer to sit in Sin Seng Vood because it's cooler with nice antique chairs and tables.
Patrons on both sides are allowed to order food from the other operator, across the street and vice versa.
Which is how this yummy Char Yee Mee cooked with fish oil, crunchy sawi, prawn, pork and just cooked liver landed on our table .
$5 only
The porridge stall dishes out one of the smoothest chicken wings on the island.
Drizzled with tasty soya sauce and sesame oil, atop a bed of crunchy cucumbers.
Best eaten together with the Yee Sung Kai Chok or fish and chicken porridge, which also contains small slices of the prized snakehead fish meat .
Garnished with yau char koay and raw salad leaves on top, preserved char chai at the bottom, be sure to mix well to balance out the flavours.
Happy smiling faces speak volumes about the foods served in these two places.
