( NH ) Supper at 999 Seafood, Fettes Park

999 Seafood is a cheap place for a great home cooked meal . Run by a husband and wife team, many singletons come here as they offer one dish rice meals that are cooked on the spot .

The sambal, belacan and gulai dishes are awesome but I seriously think that they are not from the northern states as it is not typical Penang fare. The lone cook whips out everything on his own and has given an edgier, more exciting take on those kinds of dishes Penangites love so much .

Although families like to sit down here for a meal, that fact that it is attracts smokers, can be quite a bother as the ventilation is not very good.

Also waiting time can sometimes extend beyond 45 minutes. No bother to us but not those who are extremely hungry I guess.

Because we've had so much incredibly rich foods already this is the perfect place to take things down a notch.

First up, Double Boiled Old Cucumber Soup with pork ribs.

This is so good, that in my haste, I end up burning the tip of my tongue and the inner bottom lip .

Scorching hot, I have to resort to blowing away the incessant smoke to get a better shot with my camera.

Long chinese cabbage with shitake mushrooms and prawns.
Delicious .

The chef is at his element with "ching chow" dishes.

The yellow leaves have attained a stew like texture, which to me is the correct way to serve this vegetable.

Medium portion of Yin Yong Kungfu Chau with no egg, is excellent.

Not cooked in the typical Penang style although it contains fish meat.

Leans more towards KL Kungfu Chow which I like very much.

The icy cold chinese tea served in this coffeeshop again tastes like those served in KL coffeeshops .

But I'm good. No complaints. Nice for a change.
