( U ) Lis Char Koay Teow Basah - Bayan Baru

Char Koay Teow Basah is the Malay version of Penang Char Koay Teow. Because the noodles are cooked in a concoction of sauces , Lis is one of the best places to give it a try. Formerly known as Sany Char Koay Teow, even with the name change, the place is almost always packed to the brim .

Their special order features medium sized prawns, cockles, beansprouts and silky beaten eggs. While I'm not crazy about the prawns and blood cockles, and some might not like the taste of the almost raw sprouts, Gawdamnit, the sauce is really out of this world ! Absolutely mouthwatering, not very spicy yet very addictive. Overall, what gives this dish a real nice kick to it.  Doesn't look like a lot but once it settles in, lemme assure you that this is quite filling .

Now, this here down below ,is the biasa (regular) portion.
Doesn't look as exciting but it blady hell tastes just as good. If I could I would have licked the whole plate clean, but oh, I'm not a kid anymore so hah, wishful thinking on my part !

Besides CKT, they are also known for dishing out a pretty mean Nasi Goreng Ayam. Will you look at the size of the chicken ? For me, the rice is nothing much to shout about, but the chicken meat is a revelation...how'd they learn to cook this way huh ? Damn syiok ok ? Especially when you pair it with the sambal belacan provided on the side ( not in pic ).
The tiny bowl of soup rempah is not watered like in other places. Ah, spicy and nice.

Whatever it is , their affiliation to Sany is still going strong. So if you're impressed, you might like to bring back their secret ingredient, this bottle of this kicap and see if you can replicate what these fellas can do.

Total damage : RM 22 plus for 4 drinks, 1 special ckt, 1 biasa, 2 nasi goreng ayam.

Location : Jalan Mahsuri 1, Bayan Lepas

Directions : from Tun Dr Awang roundabout head towards the airport. Take care to keep to the far right. Take the first turning to the right at the first traffic light . Pass a KFC on your left, then an Old Town restaurant. The shop is opposite.
