Our flight touched down at 5 a.m. and we could only check into the hotel after 11a.m. , so we headed out to Divanyolu to find something to bite. Zero. Loaded my Istanbulkaart and headed out to Aksaray, walked over to Tatseven...they only had lentil soup available. Not satisfied, walked over to Fatih, went to see if Siirt Seref was open. Gaaaa....not yet.
Trundled down towards the Fatih Mosque and was beginning to get veeeerrryy hungry to the point of wanting to faint....until we came to this place.
Really serves us right for being so picky. Apparently, the general population goes for pastries, breads or soups , light stuff for breakfast, so if you arrive early and are looking for a heavy meaty meal, forget it.
Anyway, this is nothing too fancy, it's a small workmen's restaurant just outside the Fatih mosque bazaar or market area. Whatever they were serving, we were gonna eat. No more choosing.
Enter the persistent cat.
See, he's starting to beg already. Later, one paw up on the chair. Then another paw up on the table.
Out of all these items on our table, the owner kept taking the brown bottle of vinegar to squirt at the cat.Three times in total. Gosh, such a persistent and desperate fella.
So, what was it after ? What was so good here that it was willing to beg and be squirted over ?
Was it after this delicious chicken and noodle soup ?
Nope
...couldn't be this lamb soup.
In fact, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone except when the weather gets real cold and you need to keep your body warm.
It was this. The pile of most deliciously fragrant bread I've ever eaten to date. Provided by every restaurant , the bread here is exceptionally good.
So good it's worth getting squirted with vinegar over and over and over.
Location : Fatih
