Ah Gu Pan Mee - yummy clam pan mee

Ah Gu Pan Mee is one half of the two famous brothers who used to run a Pan Mee stall in the old Yi Garden Kopitiam .
They were in the same shop as the other famous operator , Hongkee Bamboo Wantan Mee .

We used to patronise them , then  followed them to Kampung Malabar before discovering that they have another shop here .
Update : have since discovered that they have closed the Kampung Malabar stall and are now here in their own shoplot .

Before you read further , I'd like you to know that this is NOT your regular tasting Hakka pan mee . Think of it as a richer , different flavoured version , made by other clans , especially when it comes to the soup stock . The noodles on the other hand , are equal to any lovingly homemade pan mee made in Hakka households .

What's got me raving , is the Clam Pan Mee above . Infused with tasty Chinese wine and fresh kapah , the preferred shellfish Penangites consume , absolutely aromatic thin slices of shitake mushroom , slivers of deliciously crunchy wood ear fungus and hand made noodles , this dish is par excellence .
Nutritious and so satisfying , I don't know how they cook this but it sure as hell is good to the last drop of soup !
Highly recommended !

Almost every dish has been given their own twist .
The regular panmee for instance , has a very rich broth which tastes like a pork bone and lotus root double boiled soup .

These onsen eggs are served fridge cold .
Nothing close to the Japanese version , nevertheless , I was quite impressed that they took the trouble to present us with this option .

Tips : parking can be challenging , waiting time is long , tables might not be cleared on time , orders can get mixed up , fullhouse most times . However , the quality of the dishes make it worth the wait and all that trouble

Other favourites : deep fried salmon fish skin , deep fried enoki , Bacon Pan Mee

Update : Enoki mushroom . Deep fried Taiwanese batter style .

Update : their famous chicken feet mushroom dish . I personally believe that what they make is very good for health . Probably has dong kwai inside , sauce is on the sweeter side .

Location : Lorong Selamat , Georgetown , Penang
