( U ) Subaidah midnight desserts, Tanjung Tokong

18th july 2012 :

Don't bother stopping, they finally closed shop. Boon Siew has bought over the land. In case you still want to try it out, the nearest Subaidah is at Taman Pekaka near Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)

Earlier post :

This nasi kandar restaurant used to be a very popular stop once upon a time.

Today it is mostly packed around 3am,
when an illegal mat rempit race is about to happen along this stretch .

I myself stopped coming here because it was getting very run down and they liked to microwave our dishes before serving.

As you can see in this picture, things have certainly not improved.
Even the convenience store next to it has folded up.

We are here because this is one of the few reliable places where you can find fresh coconut juice throughout the night.

Served with sugar syrup and coconut meat.
Refreshing.

The ice kacang here is served differently.
The mountain of fine shaved ice is doused in a lithany of different coloured syrups,
chopped toasted peanuts with a whole lot of goodies underneath.
A dollop of ice cream completes the tower.

Somehow it looks like a weird rafflesia rock face today.

Location : Restoran Nasi Kandar Subaidah, Tanjung Tokong

Directions : from Gurney Plaza look out for a Caltex station on your left, the restaurant is diagonally opposite it.

Interesting facts : Beside it, is the former Chu San motel, which featured in an old but hilarious 70s movie where Chow Yuen Fatt received a wake up call, in the form of an entire pail of cold water.
