Tajuddin Hussain - mood lifting kandar and briyani

Many operators claim to offer nasi briyani in Penang , but I've always walked away disappointed .

Well , my search ends here . This plate is Da Bomb !
Suuuuuper delicious , so addictive and soooooo satisfying , I wish I could eat this everyday without murdering my hips .

The plate above , contains mutton briyani . Gelatinous tender morsel , with bone on , you can't see the meat because it's buried under the pile of rice and I'm not about to unearth it for the camera and let it go cold .
. No no .

Now in case you're thinking of coming here , only to discover that what I personally love , is world's apart from what you enjoy , let's make one thing clear here .

I've never ever liked Hameediyah's briyani nor found most other Penang mamak nasi briyani agreeable , but I love the briyani versions from Singapore and Brunei ( damn good ok ? ) , as well as , most of the Pilaf rice recipes offered in the Arabian peninsula .

I'm also aware that this plate features short grained Malaysian rice and not imported basmati rice . Personally , I don't mind because if you didn't take into account the size of the rice grain , tastewise , it can match Bilal's in KL ( last time ya , now I heard the standard has dropped )

So , while you may not like this , I do , I do , I do !

Other than briyani , the restaurant also offers extremely satisfying nasi kandar that is so good , it can alter your mood and make you feel rather high after that .

Say , you're a first timer , kindly take note of the sign hanging above . This is how one goes about ordering food here .

Takeaways - line up.
Eat ins - sit down and wait for the waiter to assist you .

The vast menu board is not entirely correct as they seem to have streamlined it down to their bestsellers .

If you ask me what's good , I'd say just about everthing .
But here's where I need to state the following . That I am not a fan of Ramzan on Lebuh Ah Quee , Mohd Raffee in Pulau Tikus nor Penang Road's Line Clear . Got it ? If you like those 3 , you might not like me for commending this place .

Moving on....this is our very simple looking but hugely pow pow yummy yum yum order which I'll explain one by one .

Squid curry .
The fibrous thick kind .
Heaven !

A lot of people swear by the Ayam Bawang ( Onion Curry Chicken ) but we're having Ayam Goreng ( Fried chicken ) , as the latter was sold out . Turned out to be not bad actually .

Cabbage was fantastic and so mouthwatering ! Spot the poppy seeds ?

Kambing Ros .
Um , it's just like what most mamaks offer in Penang . Not very exciting for me compared to the mutton in the briyani earlier .
Might skip this next time .

The other thing you cannot miss is having the plain white rice , which closely resembles banana leaf rice in terms of moistness .
Make sure you top the rice with a curry mix by telling them kuah campur ( mix ) or banjir ( for more ). It's a must .

I'd say that their nasi kandar version is like the best of Merlin Nasi Kandar + Transfer Road kari + a hearty banana leaf meal put together .

Like I said before , the food here can alter you from bad mood to good mood in just one sitting . Again , make sure to tell the server to give you kuah campur on your nasi putih ok ?
