Store bought kebaya

You have no idea how delirious I was over being able to fit into this just now .

Yes , many years back , I had one pink kebaya tailor made , and that cost me around MYR 350 or MYR 370 , I can't really remember .

Of course it was waaaaayyyyy cheaper than those sold in specialist stores with more ornate and elaborate stitching costing over a thousand ringgit and above , but I was really happy with that pink kebaya , very proud of it . If I wanted more variety of colours , the pricing was a deterrent . While I was always on a lookout , I was also over the size limit , well not anymore , since I began my weight loss journey last year .

Thus , when I came across this small shop today , selling Nyonya kebaya , the itch came back .

At first the lady quoted me MYR 145 for the top and MYR 68 for the bottom sarong .

In the end after bargaining , I managed to get it rounded off to MYR 200 which is still pretty steep,  seeing how even China produces these pieces nowadays and sells them by bulk online . So do please take a good look at the pattern on my store bought kebaya and don't let anyone trick you into thinking that you're paying for a handmade price when in actual fact , it was produced wholesale ok ? A good majority of these small time tricksters operate from flea market stalls . Not all , but a good number of them are unscrupulous enough to even pretend that they personally handmade say for example , a Nyonya tiffin carrier themselves , when in actual fact , it was purchased from India ! Let the buyer beware !

Anyway , I opted for the top to be looser but when it came to the sarong , I had to go one size up . Still , my ample bum bum filled up every available space , not enough , the batik material swaddled my hips in such a figure hugging way that when I walk , there'd better be an ambulance on standby , because there's also a cheongsam like slit in the front panel !

And why exactly did the itch return ? Well , this national dress needs younger blood , and despite me ageing , better I wear it now when everything is still shapely than later when all has completely deflated or gone south .
