Just Food - the $65 Family Platter

No . This did not come from Mr Shawarma , which is located at the entrance of the foodcourt in Gurney Paragon Mall ....
we got this delicious , still smoking Family Platter from one of the last stalls right at the back of the foodcourt .
If I'm not mistaken , they listed themselves as Mediterranean . Doesn't matter . You can find them opposite the Ayam Penyet stall .

There's a whole leg , 2 chicken kebabs , 2 lamb kebabs in different flavours and another portion of chicken with bone on , which happens to be the wing and breast meat , so that makes it half a bird already .

What's so remarkable about this set ?
Other than the taste and freshness , which I absolutely love ( different marinades for different meats and yet they're all tasty and delish ) ? ....

This !
Take a look at the way the platter is served .
Omg , why didn't we ever order this earlier ?

Brussels Beer Café - table for four

By the time we realised that we had definitely overordered , perched on the high chair area right in the corner , we made a quiet resolve to systematically remove some plates bit by bit because if you assembled them all at once , it would have looked like we had just been let out of prison .

Right , let's see what we shared amongst ourselves .

Beer Food Platter comprising ...
Blind finches ( I could drink the sauce provided together with it , all day , and get drunk on that alone lolz ), roast pork ( mouthwatering crackling skin is always such a bonus ) , squid tentacles , smoked duck breast ( fantastic ! ) , Belgian frites .

Set Lunch at Rakuzen

If you think you know what ikan kembung or mackerel should taste like, then you should really try out the grilled Japanese version . The last time I had something as good as this, was many, many years ago in Baiyoke Bangkok ( don't take my word for it, it's different there today , gone downhill since )

The japs call it Saba, but as you know, these waters in Southeast Asia are where the best tasting ones thrive.
Couple that with skillful cooking method and walla...what you get is a fantastically creamy, tender, lightly crisp, juicy piece that can take you to heaven.

Taste Better - Gurney Paragon Mall

You don't need to worry about durians being off season ever again

Just go get your fix from this kiosk called Taste Better at Paragon or Queensbay. Both outlets in Penang by the way, are doing a roaring trade. Yup, it's a hit in Penang !

Rakuzen - Gurney Paragon Mall

Japanese cuisine fans were super excited when the Super Dining group, finally made it's entry up north.
Decided to wait it out, to allow things to settle down a bit.

So they placed us here. In this chic looking basel wood section which allows you to peek at other diners, now and then. Was bothered by the temperamental air conditioning. One minute it's cool and the next minute a little stuffy. Maybe it's because we're near the glass kitchen that's just next to the main entrance.

Sam's Groceria - favourite finds

Our tastebuds have gotten increasingly cosmopolitan and yet it used to be a tall order trying to find specific ingredients needed for such dishes in Penang until Sam's Groceria entered the picture.
These are my favourite gourmet finds below

1. Live Boston Lobsters.

Will you look at the size !

Sam's Groceria - futuristic scan-it-yourself shopping

No, this is not the Star Trek enterprise. This wall of alien looking , futuristic little army of gadgets, greets all customers at the entrance of Sam's Groceria.
They're actually individual hand scanners for you to scan your purchases.

In order to experience this, you'll first need to sign up for their family card membership.

Celebrity Chef Zam at Sam's Deli

Never expected to see Chef Zamzani at all, but there he was in the flesh, overseeing the smooth running of the outlet on opening day.

Basically what does this mean ? It means, a US trained, celebrity chef, weaving his magic touch so that teatime treats , even breakfastses, reach a whole new level of deliciousness !
Like this Bristot latte for example. Comes with a morsel of biscotti on the side, though not in pic. Oh nice...almost floated to heaven !

Bee Won Korean Food - Just Food, Gurney Paragon Mall

July 2014 :

Did many of you come stare at them or take their pictures ? Do note down, that if you come here now expecting to see this family, well, you will only see some Bangla staff. Ngeh ngeh ngeh

..............
Tucked away in the upper floors, a real Korean family is running a little stall within the Just Food foodcourt !

No matter how busy they were with back to back orders ,the pretty miss is sooooo polite and sweet, she can make your heart melt. Don't know how she does it, but her hair stays absolutely perfect from morning to night.
She's really pretty by the way .
