Butter Cuttle (PF)
While we were at the Avenue of the Stars, waiting for the world reknowned Symphony of Lights show to start, a most delicious smell filled the air .
We followed our noses and it led us like hungry moths towards this musical rolling orange flame. Cute cartoon !
We place our order with this chap who's trying very hard to keep his cool and look undisturbed

Snake King - Se Wong Sun ( NH )
Something caught my attention from the corner of my eye.
And right smack in the middle of Toy Street too ! Try and beat that.
I backtracked. Almost fainted when I saw this poster. Scream ! Cobraaaaa.... ????
Inched a little closer and took many many steps back when I noticed some preserved , coiled up specimens in large jars on shelves located near the entrance.
This where our snakes and river terrapins end up ? In a cooking pot here ? On this street ?
Hissed it's last hiss on Wanchai - the snake's eulogy.
Dai Pai Tong Treasures ( NH )
I intially approached this street food sold on almost every corner, with much scepticism but was immediately blown away by the very addictive, eardrum busting, extremely spicy sauce . Yum ! Can't put it down once you start.
Since it was love at first bite, I got adventurous and decided to try out this threesome together.
Curry fishballs, Curry Offal and a variety of fishpaste items without the curry

Lucullus Gourmet Shop , Langham Place
Possibly the cutest , daintiest , most fascinatingly imaginative and beautiful array of chocolates you will ever come across are sold by Lucullus .
It's just a small shop on the way to the MTR but boy, the display is so attractive, it just stops you in your tracks.
The upside down glass mini chandeliers are so pretty.
Minimum order here is two pieces.
Took the last mango rose. Eek ! Cute mice.
Spot the shy rabbits .
Couldn't bear to bite one.
Too sweet to look at.
Treated myself to one chocolate bomb.
Top shelf.
Bought two pieces only yet they still wrapped it up for me in this lilac paper bag.
Feel very pai seh.
Bill.
$9 per piece.
Verdict : mango rose was ok ,couldn't really taste the mango flavour . chocolate bomb was nicer with small pop pops exploding in your mouth .

Shui Wah Restaurant, Fa Yuen Street
We decided to have breakfast at Shui Wah restaurant today.
The locals here seem to love eating instant noodles and ham the whole day. Paired with eggs ,toast and ham as well as other combinations later in the day.
As we were not keen on the noodles we requested for a set without it.
I got this after much difficulty getting my message across to the extremely patient and helpful waiter.
Looks like an stingray omelette in flight with two small bra cones on top .
Some swift surgery to expell the contents.....ham..ham..ham...and more ham.
Aiya, I only like french ham nothing else.
Didn't I hear him say this was a Ham Sandwich ?
Don't really like this as the bread roll is too hard, the butter or margarine is not fragrant and the egg ordinary like a flat piece of fried plastic with not much flavouring while the ham tastes like what we can get back home from supermarket delis that sell the lowest priced ham cuts.
He gets something that is not on the menu. Breaded fish fillet.
Damnit. This is really tasty and nice although very thin. Didn't try the bacon nor the tartar sauce. Stole lots of this off his plate.
Till he had to call for a second plate. This time a slight variation from the first. Eggs scrambled (that look scrambled to you ?) and with a sausage instead.
Look at the fish. Split into 2. Perhaps not enough to go around yet they obliged us anyway.
Tsui Wah Restaurant , Lai Yip Street
Tsui Wah and Shui Wah are 2 different restaurants although they may sound the same.
This is another famous restaurant which I tried for the first time . I loved the food here so much I ended up patronising it every day that I was here on holiday.
As with almost every good, average priced makan place here, again, we had to line up to get in.
Nobody seems to mind the scaffolding.
See ? Packed to the brim. Full house. Amazing how the staff fits everyone in .
Look at the amount of outlets they have scattered all over Hong Kong, Macau and China.
At first I was a bit miffed that they recommended the Malaysian curry to us.
Feeling rather haughty we went ahead and ordered the beef with rice just to see why it was a bestseller here.
The beef comprised of tender meat, brisket and tendon, while the curry was different but in a good mouthwatering way.
He tried to recall and said that it reminds him of Ayam brand chicken curry.
Frankly, it's mildly hot, builds up slowly and is worth a try at least once.
The instant I sunk my teeth into this chicken, I made up my mind to come here for a daily fix. The skin is so smooth and melt in your mouth silky, it's yellow and I could taste a hint of rock salt on top.
The dips were tasty even the thick soya sauce. The sliced vegies were sweet pickles ( I have eaten something similar in Balakong before) , the rice is fluffy while they change the soup serving everyday.
Delicious !
Bowl of sui kau dumplings. Although quite gigantic and packed with ingredients this was ok only . Didn't feel inspired enough to repeat this on the other times that we came.
He fell head over heels in love with their fishball noodle soup.
And ended up eating this each time I returned for the chicken rice.
Their rich milk tea too is the best.
A lip smacking, satisfying experience just like in the cute picture.
Bill.
Worth every cent.
Mc Cafe, Good Hope Building
There are Mc Cafes all over the world. From Paris down to Argentina, they exist side by side with Mc Donalds. Just that we don't have it in Malaysia even after so long.
Mc Cafes in my opinion probably serves as an alternative answer to the Starbucks going crowd.
But here in Hong Kong especially in this super busy outlet, it is near impossible to find yourself a seat during the day but we were in luck. Wow got to sit here for once !
One of the reasons is because a lot of old folks make their way here and sort of consider it like their kopitiam where they hang out the whole day without being forced to "tap toi" share tables or move off. The younger ones come in groups.
This is past midnight and these two old men are still hanging around nonchalant about the din the youngsters all around are making. I think price also pays a factor in the seniors making this their hangout because Mc Donalds today offers one of the cheapest dining and drink options in the world, especially in cities like London and even Hong Kong.
It's good if you have kids dragging you into Mc Donalds. Gives you other choices apart from the regular burgers and fries.
There you have it. What 2 adults came here for.
Half eaten full sized juicy double cheeseburger with expensive tomato flavoured shaker fries.
The burger seems to be larger and more filling than the ones we get back home. The beef pattie is thick and juicy. Not dry, miserable and thin.
What he ordered for himself from the cafe counter.
Together with a slice of cake which I promptly helped myself to.
Nice touch eh the M word ?
M stands for Mmmm.
My basic coffee from the fast food cashier.
Unlike in Malaysia, they have no packets of creamer and sugar here. You get a tub of syrup and a tub of milk.
If you must, you can go over to the cafe section for white granulated sugar or brown sugar.

Australia Dairy Company, Parkes Street
Heard so much about how good the breakfast here is so this place was a must try.
When we spotted the place, walaueh.... will you look at the line. What to do but wait.
Side view. Hopelessly long. Stretches past 3 shoplots.
By the time we reach their window I start aiming for this star dish of theirs.
Seems they come in 2 colours. White or yellow. I think white is steamed milk and the yellow is an egg.
Surprisingly the long line moves along quite fast. But once we arrive at the entrance we realise that everyone has to share tables amongst organised chaos. Packed to the brim !
We struggle along to get a gist of what we want to order with my very basic Cantonese. And actually get out order faster than one local sharing space with us.
Tadaaaa.....what the heck is this. Don't care lah just swallow.
It's steamed milk with sugar that is too sweet for my liking. Hmmm...an acquired taste I think because it has absolutely killed any trace of the smell of milk. Didn't enjoy this at all since I do like my milk to smell and taste milky.
He on the other hand enjoyed the cold version.
Scrambled eggs between two slices of bread and scrambled eggs on top of one slice of bread. Sigh. I don't want to bug any waiter at this point.
However one bite changed our perception of what scrambled egg ought to taste like forever. I've never tasted anything like this. This is indeed good. Slightly salty but very good.
We also had an exceptional cold glass of coffee that sent a shiver of delight down my spine. Excellent wake me up ! Tastes totally different from any coffee I have ever had. Thick, fragrant, rich and invigorating .
Didn't take pics of that out of consideration for the poor guy who still didn't get his order after we had left.

Sampan Porridge
This is my first attempt at this dish and probably after today it will be my last.
It's supper, past 11.40 pm and we find ourselves at Fa Yuen Street inside this little shop.
Keep your eyes on the road outside, don't look at the floor.
Prices are extremely reasonable but the crowd consists of a motley of tough characters too.
I decided on this shop against a dim sum palace as I wanted a more authentic version as opposed to a more refined recipe of this humble dish.
But nothing prepared me for the things I found inside the congee.
Floured minced pieces of what tasted like some kind of meat which I have no intention of finding out, together with brown squid tentacles and gasp ! is that urchin ? complete with spikes ? then more sea cucumber like strings together with fried peanuts.
Lost my appetite because I find some of these ingredients a little hard to stomach. I think it was the shock of seeing the little spikes on the urchin that made it revolting .
The dumpling on the other hand was much better. There was a thick layer of mashed black eyed beans at the bottom layer, much better than our version.
However when we got to the centre, it was only a small piece of fat from the pork belly minus any meat.
Served on top of a saucer of light soya sauce. Quite nice. If only the plate didn't look so greasy .
Lastly we had the red bean dessert. Pretty much home made and ordinary tasting. Just like what we would cook back home.
