120 not the same

There used to be a time when MYR 120 could fetch you a great feast in a nice restaurant .
Well , this still looks impressive but when you dig in you start to question yourself .
Why ? Why do you now have to add on Gst onto my bill ?
And why is there so much lambbbbbehhh ???? So little chicken ? And so much bread ?

Lebanon - Tanjung Bungah

Two petrol guzzlers parked outside the entrance .
You don't get more middle eastern than this.
Works like a charm in drawing guests like moths to a flame....

....electric flames that are encased in soothing lamps just about everywhere you turn.
The effect is no less gorgeous even if it is made from plastic.

Lebanon - Pizza pepperoni laden with Italian buffalo mozarella

We ordered a pizza out of obligation to the dear teen.
When it arrived, he moaned
" Their pizzas have shrunken. Also, where are all the ingredients ? "

We ignored him and took a slice out .
Fuuuuhhhh.....we tried but the mozarella string was simply longer than the Penang Bridge cable and in the end we had to use a fork to cut it. Else we'd have to stand on a ladder just to get it to break off ! The ingredients though rather sparse looked bare because the entire pizza was laden with sinful, puffy buffalo mozarella cheese .

It tasted like Turkish mozarella to me but the owner who so happened to be in, stopped at our table and raved that they'd managed to convince the supplier of Italian buffalo mozarella cheese to channel some of the good stuff to their two outlets instead . You see, just down the entrance to Batu Feringghi is a very teratas establishment who gets their buffalo mozarella supply from that supplier . And because he is particular about his clientele not being any Ah Too and Ah Kau, he actually inspected their premise before agreeing to give them the stock ! My goodness, what goes on behind the scenes !

Anyway , the ingredients did indeed prove to be not too many but the heavenly cheese more than made up for it.
But by the time we reached the thin crust underneath,
the verdict was unanimous. The base is exquisitely aromatic and very middle eastern .
You must, you must , you must, try their breads once because as I rightly suspected, they have a new breadman in the kitchen and he is excellent, excellent , excellent.

$100 Grilled Platter at Lebanon ( U )

Update March 2013 :

The whole plate was overburnt.
No idea if the staff was sleeping on the job or what but tsk tsk, someone's got to watch over the cooks in the kitchen.

Earlier post
----------------------------

Lebanon is my current 'crazy about' makan place and these are the private rooms which we should have requested if we wanted to not look so fwah...kwacheong..
Actually they are reserved for Arab ladies to dine in private and not so much for big eaters who don't want anyone to know how much they can eat

But he and I not paiseh at all.
We took the plunge and ordered their $100 grill platter today. Then tag team polished it out in the open.
Only peeve of mine is the waiter always assumes that since I am the larger species out of the two , I eat more. Hence they will always take care to push the lion's share in front of me.
They will soon discover that it should have been the other way around.
I know we're being watched

2nd dinner at Lebanon, Batu Feringghi ( U )

Following my earlier visit, the day before, (refer to http://gostansikit.blogspot.com/2012/10/lebanon-restaurant-batu-feringghi.html ).....this time we went for the Grilled chicken ( no pics because we bulldozed straight into it) , Hawaiian pizza ( same case) , a fish briyani (very good)  and the Greek salad ( only recommended for people who like homemade spanish salads) ....

Tried the Lebanese cocktail
So, so....

Lebanon Restaurant , Batu Feringghi ( U )

Batu Feringghi it was tonight, as I craved for Middle Eastern food.
Upon opening the menu, I found that they didn't just specialize in Lebanese or Middle Eastern fare.
But western grill selections with spaghetti and pizza ???
Have to admit I thought of walking out, but I am very glad I stayed .

Lamb Briyani.
Panicked because all I saw was a mountain of colourful, rice.
While the rice was a little on the dry side, as well as a little salty, I found it most fragrant and enjoyed the texture immensely.
Seriously..the best briyani rice I have had on Penang Island to date.

Nasi Hadramot, Jalan Sultan Ismail ( U )

Hadramot lies just at the corner of the entrance into the Ain Arabia enclave in Bukit Bintang.

Looks pretty luxurious from the outside, but once on the inside, um, it's better to focus your attention on the food.

There's no clear non smoking section and the foreign customers here seem to like to use dividers to ensure their privacy. Not that I'm against it just that I felt kind of odd.
