Loke Sok Seafood - fast forward 2017

This kopitiam is actually famous for its fish noodle . But if anything is to go by and you observe like I did , and notice that most of their loyal old customers end up looking like garoupas with too many visible age spots on their skin , that's a huge No Thank You from me .

We are what we eat after all .
I hardly take belacan and prawn paste but I do like fish occasionally , so what am I doing here actually ?
Well , there is a chu cha operator that opens till around 2 pm or so . The old cook from last time is no more around but these guys are just as good and this is what we called for .

Wang Chau Jun ( NH )

The owner is formerly a chef from Carnation Cafe in Gurney Drive.
Back then ( the 90s) he was good enough to make an impression on these people pictured below.

Today, this is where you can find him.
Under the staircase, counting money.

Ang Hoay Loh ( NH )

If it gets too late for lunch or it's still too early for dinner, you can rely on this place to tend to your hunger pangs.

In the mood for fish today, the standard offering here is Kerapu or Garoupa.
Nicely deep fried, crispy on the outside, juicy inside, doused with sauce that is not too salty.
The fish tasted even better when we started on the underside as the fish had absorbed all the flavour from the sauce by then.

( NH ) Tapioca Fried Fish Noodles,Min Jiang, Air Itam

When the rare tourist comes here, they tend to take locals word for it, that the tomyam stall is the best there is.

I beg to differ.

Most locals are enraptured by the tomyam because the level of spiciness is on a psycho scale of a gazillion sweat beads and a paralysed tongue .

This you can savour in one of the many small mom and pop stalls in Prangin Mall.

However, nobody on the island has been able to replicate what these men have been churning out night after night.

(U) Nasi Campur with kampung cats and chickens- Teluk Bahang

A lady and her teenage son, man, this small roadside hawker stall, in front of a block of flats, a short throw away from the Penang National Park entrance.

Her stall lies in front of a small detailing workshop with the Jetron signage you see in this picture.

( U ) 27km for Kak Mah & Abg Din's Bawal Goreng Panas - Juru ( U )

Update : fast forward November 2015.
A 2 person meal with 2 bawal fish , 2 fried chicken , 2 rice , 2 drinks plus a bowl of plain curry now costs MMYR 31 . Cheap was good while it lasted.

--------------

Rich stingey pokers and the downright broke, rub shoulders and sweat in unison together here,in this makeshift restaurant located in an industrial estate.

It's an inflation busting godsend where one piece of freshly fried black pomfret, the size of a dinner plate, costs just five ringgit.
