Aroi Thai- a page out of Bangkok ( NH )

Aroi Thai is a quaint little restaurant
that bears a ladies touch in almost every corner.
As long as you keep your eyes off their oh-s0-Thai handsome varieties of manly helpers.

Peonies dangle from wicker cases on the ceiling

Wang Chau Jun ( NH )

The owner is formerly a chef from Carnation Cafe in Gurney Drive.
Back then ( the 90s) he was good enough to make an impression on these people pictured below.

Today, this is where you can find him.
Under the staircase, counting money.

G Hotel - Room Service ( Part 2 )

Love to order room service.
Especially when it comes in looking like this.

 Our spread looks impressive.
I mean, out of so many hotels we've stayed, none have failed us so far.
Our eager smiles soon turn upside down.

G Hotel - Penang ( Part 1 )

It's about to be CNY...

......and there are lots of single, stylish ladies checking in here for a spot of indulgence available next door.

Kham Kee Beef Steamboat - strong enough for 3 pythons ( part 1 )

There's a curious hanging on the wall here, that harks all the way back to the 50s.

It shows a group of men ( one of whom is the old boss of Kham Kee ) posing with 3 pythons.
Fwahh.... like Tarzan only !

Mouthwatering Jackfruits - Tg Bungah night market

It's not easy trying to get the fruit out from it's compartment and not get a layer of sticky gum all over it.
Requires a fair amount of skill to do so.
That's why most prefer to buy it from traders .
Besides, one fruit holds so many seeds, it's quite impossible to finish .

I thought I'd eaten it all, but this batch, hawked by these traders at the Tanjung Bungah pasar malam,
knocked me off my socks !
Bear in mind that the brilliant, almost fluorescent yellow colour you see, is not touched up.
All natural !
Can you believe it ?

Feels like Kaoshiung ( NH ) - Tg Bungah pasar malam

The Tg Bungah pasar malam is slowly evolving.
The entrance has lost its Malaysian-nes already with more young entrepreneurs introducing a lithany of creative dishes to us.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining.
I do find the change quite exciting.
And so do others. As evident from the little patient queues forming at the new outlets.
But it does feel like Kaoshiung, minus the cold weather.

The mysteriously good looking Oink Oink burger chef, kinda makes you wanna look twice.
Haven't tried this yet, but I am sure it
( the food, yo, not the chef, whatever were you thinking, haha) must be good, judging from the crowd

7 Village - Abu Siti Lane ( NH )

7 Village is a real godsend to Penang Island.
Apparently they have been open for around 2 or 3 months already, but I just found out about it today.
Better late than never.

Yes, someone up there heard the islanders cries, for great damn blady shiok koay teow thng ( so hard to find nowadays ),with really, truly absolutely fresh ingredients ( even famous stalls dare give us rotten fishballs and pork that has been fed a cocktail of dangerous drugs ) , that we don't have to cross the bridge for.

Sin Kim San - Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken Rice ( NH )

While there are plenty of pakcham keh fans on the island, this is the first time I am seeing two older Japanese ladies, enjoying this dish so much, they just had to snap pics.

Four Seasons - Trengganu Road ( NH )

As with their outlet in Bayan Lepas, it's high time they refurbished.
But don't worry if you can't read Mandarin.
Just point at their picture menu and tadaaa...
(Take note that you will either fail or score, if you take my advice and follow exactly what I did below )

Starbucks Drive In Outlet - now open in Tg Tokong

Have to admit I haven't stepped in yet.
But this piece of news will delight those in the northern region.
After all, we get loads of people pouring into the island every day, on the lookout for something new to pique their senses.

 Haven't stepped in yet, yep,
even though they are ( were) 2 tempting offers.

Fok Kee Restaurant, Pitt Street ( NH )

Fok Kee has been around for ages, but lately I see the crowd thinning as more and more people have shifted away from the inner city to places like Jelutong and Air Itam.

Kapah served in bamboo - Sunshine Bay (NH )

While Kapah is a shellfish that is available in abundance all year round,
in the old days however, December used to be the bonanza time ( so I was told ) that locals took a sieve to the beaches and hauled home enough bounty , to even have it pickled.

We're at Sunshine Bay tonight and it's packed to the brim .
Lots of returnees back home for Christmas, Gurney Drive is jammed to the brim, as if it were CNY.
Having eaten here numerous times, I was game for something new this time.

Real homecooked meal at Chew Jetty Cafe ( PF )

The shop isn't very wonderful to look at, in fact it's very cramped, but it does hold a small secret

Take a look at this signboard.
Call the number on your mobile ( bear in mind that you have to be able to converse in Penang Hokkien with the person on the other end of the line ) and within minutes ......

Peking Duck Skin- Midland Court ( NH )

Take a look at the area surrounding this restaurant and let your imagination run wild. It's located in a shopping complex notorious for er...certain activities... that can get Mazidul Akmal Sidik's panties up in a bunch.
In case you're wondering, no, that's not him.
He's balder.

Umay - Sri Lankan Briyani ( PF)

Always itching to try something new.
That's how I ended up in a foodcourt again although I totally detest the characterless, sterile environment.
Would prefer to eat by the roadside anytime...but hey...let's give it a go .

Offering Sri Lankan , Western and Arab food on the same menu , sounds as though it's gonna be a tall order, for the chef to pull off, right ?
But I'm willing to give everything a try once.
Settled on the Sri Lankan Briyani set.

(U) Aini Sajian Selera - Sg Perak R&R Northbound

It's not easy trying to find good food at the many R&R's these days . That's why I always make it a point to stop here whenever I'm passing by.

Although lots of customers pick this simple, cheap meal off the shelf .....

$100 Grilled Platter at Lebanon ( U )

Update March 2013 :

The whole plate was overburnt.
No idea if the staff was sleeping on the job or what but tsk tsk, someone's got to watch over the cooks in the kitchen.

Earlier post
----------------------------

Lebanon is my current 'crazy about' makan place and these are the private rooms which we should have requested if we wanted to not look so fwah...kwacheong..
Actually they are reserved for Arab ladies to dine in private and not so much for big eaters who don't want anyone to know how much they can eat

But he and I not paiseh at all.
We took the plunge and ordered their $100 grill platter today. Then tag team polished it out in the open.
Only peeve of mine is the waiter always assumes that since I am the larger species out of the two , I eat more. Hence they will always take care to push the lion's share in front of me.
They will soon discover that it should have been the other way around.
I know we're being watched
